Pashupatinath Temple As one of the four most important religious sites in Asia and believed to be the world's biggest and oldest Shiva temple, Pashupatinath exudes a different spiritual charm. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it bears a deep historical and cultural significance. Located on the banks of the holy Bagmati River, this architectural marvel is designed in the Nepali pagoda style and is embellished with intricate carvings and beautiful decorations that depict Nepal's rich artistic history. There are hundreds of small temples inside the complex like Guhyeshwari Temple, Vatasala Temple, Ram Temple, Sati's Gate and various other temples. There are many small tombs inside the Gorakhnath temple complex. Regarded to be an incredibly pure pilgrimage destination, Pashupatinath Temple is widely believed to be one of the twelve Jyotirlingam locations. Boudhanath Stupa In terms of grace and magnificence, Boudhanath Stupa is matchless. It is among the largest stupas in South Asia and it has become the focal point of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal. From its whitewashed dome to its gilded tower, the monument is perfectly proportioned. The highly symbolic construction presents a three-dimensional illustration of the Buddha’s path towards enlightenment. At the base of the stupa, there are 108 small images of the Dhyani Buddha Amitabha and a ring of prayer wheels. To reach the upper level of the plinth, look for the gateway at the north end of the stupa, beside a small shrine dedicated to Hariti, the goddess of smallpox. Definitely, current stupa is a more recent construction. Patan Durbar Square Patan Durbar Square is situated at the centre of the city of Lalitpur in Nepal. It is one of the three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley. The square is a masterpiece of Newari architecture that includes ancient monuments, temples, shrines, statues and idols. Most of the temples and monuments in this square were built in the 17th century. The square was considered as the centre of Hinduism and Buddhism. More than 600 stupas, 136 courtyards and 55 major temples were located around Patan Durbar Square, but today a handful of them remains intact. Shikara Architectural style is common in the construction of most of the structures. Drive to Chitwan National Park! Arrive and check into the hotel! Chitwan National Park Chitwan National Park was established in 1973 as Nepal’s first national park. Back then, it was known as Royal Chitwan National Park. The wildlife park was established mainly to protect the declining population of the one-horned rhinoceros. The park is the second largest natural habitat of the one-horned rhinoceros. The largest is India’s Kaziranga National Park in Assam. The unique ecosystem of the Terai region includes dense subtropical jungles, rivers and grasslands. There are more than 50 species of mammals here, including monkeys, tigers, leopards, sloth bears, wild boar, hyenas, deer, elephants and rhinos. There are also 450 different species of birds and 67 species of butterflies. The main attraction of Chitwan is the Elephant Safari. It is a unique experience to explore the jungle on the back of a trained elephant. Later in the evening, visit Elephant Breeding Centre or part of one of the programmes arranged by the lodge. This morning, experience an exciting safari at the jungle in southern Nepal, where you get to ride on an elephant back in search of One-horned Rhinos and many other wild animals. Later in the afternoon, you will take a Canoe Ride on the Rapti River. Drive back to Kathmandu. Arrive and check into the hotel! After a requisite rest, proceed for sightseeing tour of Bhaktapur Durbar Square! Bhaktapur Durbar Square is located about 13 kms to the east of the Kathmandu Valley. The Bhaktapur Durbar Square is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was once home to the royal family of Bhaktapur. Locally known as Khwopa or the ancient Newa City, the entire complex comprises four different squares, i.e. Taumadhi Square, Durbar Square, Pottery Square and Dattatreya Square.
